Every photographer who has the itch to create images will eventually realize that they must learn the basics of photography to be able to control the images they produce. All of us have been there.
You are starting to realize that you can make a big difference in the outcome of your photos by simply thinking about them. Imagine how much better your photos would be if you put more effort into understanding the basics. What if you knew how to actually use a digital camera? What if you only knew the basics of compositions? What if, instead of relying on luck to capture the beautiful light, you could control it?
Realise that you need to learn more about photography than the snapshots you’ve been taking.
What comes next?
Many people turn to heavy tomes, which cover everything from theory to cameracraft to the details of specific genres. How light works. Refraction. Reflection. It’s not unlike what you would read in a textbook of physics.
There is nothing wrong with it. We’ve all read such books and gained a lot from them. Most of us have those books on our shelves – I do.
